Greetings from the 100+ degree heat of Houston. For those of you baking alongside me, I hope you’re finding cool and relaxing places to enjoy your summer.
One of the places that I was priveleged to go to was Key West, Florida. I’d never been before and was thrilled to have the opportunity to play tourist while also screening Acid Test as part of the Stock Island Film Festival– a pop up festival that’s part of the larger Key West Film Festival.
Programmed by the filmmaker Quincy Perkins who I met at the Victoria TX Film Festival when his indie feature Love in Youth and his short documentary 6 Toes screened, it was a wonderful 3 nights of films about “smuggling, drugs, fishing, fighting, falling in love, and other nefarious activites” in homage to the island’s darker history. The films were amazing and I appreciated having daytime to explore the area. I saw the famous Hemingway House and got to go on a snorkeling adventure. See the photo album below!
But the highlight of the trip was the final night when Acid Test won a Special Jury Prize that came with a flask of amazing rum. I share this award (but not the rum!) with all of you. Thank you for all your hard work and continued support.
So what’s next? Acid Test is still eligible for festival submissions and we are hoping to screen at a few more in the coming year. I’m also going to finalize online distribution options through Seed&Spark that we qualified for during our campaign. And, of course, there’s the feature film adaptation that’s in the works. Rewrites are ongoing and we are in the early stages of pre-production.
We are incredibly luck to have the continued partnership of Anna Tran who helped put together our Table Read in April. She’s keeping us on track to ensure the feature film comes to light.
